SINGLE REVIEW: Mr. Children’s ‘Tabidachi no Uta’

Mr. Children- Tabidachi no Uta

I’m not really all that familiar with Mr. Children, but he was one of the first Japanese artists/groups I knew about, even though I hadn’t heard┬átheir music. This is my first single of theirs, but I have heard lives of┬átheir music on miscellaneous television shows. I don’t really have much to say, but I’m hoping that the song ends up being good. I always have a good day when I find a new artist that I enjoy. Here’s Mr. Children’s Tabidachi no Uta.

Tabidachi no Uta, the cover track of the single, starts out with very unique sounding music in which I can hear violin and guitar along with a few other various instruments. I’m impressed with the vocals in this song because I was expecting something more like B’z where the music carries the song almost more than the vocals do. However, I was happily wrong and found that the singing in this song is very well done and soulful. There were quite a few powerful notes in the song, and I was generally impressed by the overall craftsmanship. This is definitely on the slower side of the musical spectrum, and it makes for a really relaxing and pretty listen. I enjoy the feeling of the song, and it’s one of the nicest songs I’ve heard recently. I’m impressed with the quality of recent releases. Everything I hear lately sounds impressive, and this is certainly no exception.

The second song on the single is Hitsuji, Hoeru, a slightly more upbeat, but almost equally relaxing track that was pretty well done and definitely a pleasure to listen to. The vocals may be a bit weaker than those of Tabidachi no Uta, but I like the tempo of the music in Hitsuji, Hoeru better. Although I perfer the cover track, I really did enjoy this song. The guitar is very light and pretty to listen to, and the vocals compliment it quite well. The progression of the song was a little slow, but I still got the an overwhelming sense of relaxation while listening to this song. I like this single because of the pretty way it slowly speeds up, but keeps the feeling of calmness.
